The Communications and Public Affairs Directorate supports the work of NHS London by providing specialist communications skills. This includes media and crisis management skills, internal communications support, electronic media, stakeholder engagement, campaigns marketing and supporting trusts and PCTs in their communications functions. It also provides briefings on the NHS in London for the Prime Minister and Department of Health ministers. The Directorate is led by Stephen Webb.
The Performance DIrectorate is led by Sara Coles. Our primary function is to improve the performance of commissioning organisations for the benefit of the people of London. This means focusing on areas to improve healthcare such as measuring performance to improve access, reduce inequalities and increase public health awareness. With 31 PCT's across London commissioning over 11billion it is an exciting challenge as we deliver a world class health service.
This Directorate focuses on the smooth running of NHS London with responsibility for managing and developing the organisation and its facilities. It also leads on corporate governance, is responsible for the management of legal cases and overseeing the ethics committee.
Led by Paul Baumann, the Finance and Investment Directorate ensure financial accountability and transparency across the NHS in London. They ensure that financial balance and best value for money is achieved by NHS London and the PCTs serving London.
Led by John Goulston, the NHS London Programme for IT (LPFiT), is upgrading NHS IT systems across the capital to make patient information as mobile as patients themselves. This includes delivering new IT systems in London PCTs and giving staff access to electronic patient records. LPfIT staff work alongside trusts and our supplier BT to design, build and install the new systems. This includes important staff preparation such as training and adjusting to new ways of working.
The Chief Nurse Directorate is headed up by Chief Nurse Professor Trish Morris-Thompson, who has overall responsibility for Londons 70,000 nurses and midwives. The directorate provides strategic advice and support on a range of nursing issues, including: maternity and midwifery, patient experience, healthcare associated infections, safeguarding children and safeguarding vulnerable adults, and continuing care.
Led by Dr Anne Rainsberry, the POD Directorate focuses on developing the skills, knowledge and leadership abilities of NHS staff across London. They deliver a workforce strategy, education strategy and training, leadership and talent management programme.
The Provider Development Directorate, also led by John Goulston, works within NHS London to deliver a redesigned provider landscape across London, populated by clinically and financially sustainable and well governed organisations. The directorate does this by ensuring that organisations exist in forms which are sustainable and financially viable into the future. The directorate is led by the Regional Director of Provider Development. The regional comes from the fact that the teams in each SHA are also the regional arms of the DH's Provider Development workstream.
The Public Health Directorate promotes good health for Londoners and oversees the quality of health service provision by monitoring clinical quality and patient safety standards. They are also involved in emergency planning and disease control. The Directorate is led by Dr Simon Tanner who works closely with the Chief Medical Officer, the Directors of Public Health in the PCTs and acts as Chief Health Advisor to the Mayor of London.
The Strategy and Commissioning Development Directorate works to improve the health and healthcare in London through the development of GPs commissioning capabilities. They oversee all plans for reconfiguration across the NHS in London, and manage the commissioning strategy planning process. The Directorate is also responsible for fulfilling the SHA's legal duty to promote innovation. The directorate is led by Hannah Farrar
