What we do

Great performance, great care

A lot of our work focuses on overseeing and improving how your health services are provided across London. We hold overall responsibility for your NHS services in the city and we want to address the issues that really matter for Londoners. We're developing and improving on how and where your health services are provided across London.

great care

To ensure the best quality services for London we manage the performance of PCTs and trusts against national and local standards and targets to ensure current plans and commitments are implemented across the city. As outlined in the NHS Operating Framework, there are currently five key areas to which PCTs are expected to pay particular attention:

  • Improved cleanliness and reducing health care associated infections
  • Improved access through achievement of the 18-week referral to treatment pledge, and improved access (including at evenings and weekends) to GP services
  • Keeping adults and children well, improving their health and reducing health inequalities
  • Improved patient experience, staff satisfaction, and engagement
  • Prepared to respond to a state of emergency, such as an outbreak of pandemic flu.

As well as this NHS London develops strategies to improve performance in areas such as maternity services, same sex accommodation and immunisation. Regardless of who you are or where you live in London, we are working to ensure all patients receive the best clinical care possible in the most appropriate location for their illness.

You can read more about these areas in the links on the left of this page.
