NHS London provides strategic leadership for all of the NHS health services in the capital. We have overall responsibility for the performance of 31 primary care trusts, operating in six clusters, 21 acute trusts, three mental health trusts and the London Ambulance Service. We also have a role to play in helping trusts achieve foundation status where they can work more autonomously. A further 15 trusts in London are self-governing as foundation trusts, who are regulated by Monitor.

We make sure that NHS services in London spend taxpayers' money properly and provide high quality services. We also look at ways they can improve performance and make services more accessible to diverse communities in London. We also work to develop the skills of the NHS workforce.
As well as enhancing health services in London, we want to help Londoners look after their own health. We also build strong partnerships with other organisations, such as local government, to ensure services across the city are joined up and working well together.
