Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is the latest mental health trust to sign up to RiO 5.4 and is making preparations to go live in October 2010.
The Trust signed up to the Programme at the end of last year having previously been on CareNotes, an administrative system dealing primarily with clerical usage, enabling administrative staff to schedule appointments and follow patients from initial contact to discharge.
Moving over to RiO 5.4 will bring extra clinical functionality such as the ability to record assessments, risk history and care plans, which will help improve patient care and make patient observations easier and more secure.
Other benefits of RiO 5.4 include recording progress notes and health outcomes, and in addition the system supports internal and national reporting requirements.
To safeguard client confidentiality, access is based on the user's role. Clients will be asked to provide consent to share information in their records and consent decisions will be recorded.
So far RiO 5.4 has been implemented in 70 per cent of the mental health trusts across the capital and staff are already using the system to manage their caseloads, access information and improve the quality of care that they provide to clients.
