Eighth trust gets ready for RiO

London's mental health trusts have seen some significant benefits from moving from paper-based records to the RiO electronic patient record system with seven out of ten trusts already live on the system.

Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is the latest mental health trust to sign up to RiO and is gearing up to rollout version 5.4 in October 2010.

The trust currently uses CareNotes, an administrative system enabling administrative staff to schedule appointments and follow patients from initial contact to discharge.

Moving over to RiO 5.4 will bring extra clinical functionality such as the ability to record assessments, risk history and care plans, which will help improve patient care and make patient observations easier.

Other benefits of RiO 5.4 include recording progress notes and health outcomes, and in addition the system supports internal and national reporting requirements.

To safeguard client confidentiality, access is based on the user's role and smartcard access.

Clients will be asked to provide consent to share information in their records among the hospital team caring for them and consent decisions will be recorded.
