Sitting within the People and Organisational Development directorate (POD), the Workforce Transformation team identifies areas within the London healthcare system that may require support to implement the strategic vision of Workforce for London. Led by Julie Screaton, the team focuses on activities that need a coordinated approach at a pan-London or sector level.
We are working with the sector directors of Workforce Transformation to develop their sector-specific workforce transformation plans. These plans will set out the context for workforce transformation in each of London's six sectors and sector-specific transformation strategies.
Leadership is critical to empowering and enabling senior NHS leaders across London to transform the workforce by developing their skills and providing them with practical support to help them deliver change. We are developing 100 leaders of workforce transformation through a 20-month programme that includes masterclasses and immersion events. Participants will also deliver workforce transformation through 'breakthrough' projects, enabling them to work in cross-organisational teams and apply their learning to real system change that has an impact on healthcare quality outcomes and affordability.
To enable Workforce for London, we are working with HR networks, London NHS Partnership (employer and trade unions) and the Workforce Advisory Forum (providing a workforce and clinical perspective) to develop and ensure effective workforce leadership and partnership.
We manage a rolling programme of workforce policy projects. In 2010-11 key areas will include modernising scientific careers, implementation of the NHS constitution and the employee relations issues associated with large-scale workforce change.
