London's workforce

Workforce for London Overview

Workforce for London – A Strategic Overview was launched in September 2008 to help prepare the NHS workforce in London to deliver our vision of a truly world-class health service. The NHS workforce in London are key to delivering this quality of care to patients and the success of the programme depends on their commitment, dedication and energy.

Workforce for London is a substantial change project designed to create the right incentives and levers to ensure the workforce is fit for purpose going forward. We are working with PCTs and Trusts to ensure they have the right capacity to support their workforce in delivering this vision.

From the outset of Workforce for London we have emphasised our commitment to:

  • Working in partnership with stakeholders across London to develop plans and guidance
  • Wherever possible change to be locally led within an overall London framework
  • Ensuring clinical ownership and leadership of the change
  • Being guided by the needs of London as a whole

Dr Anne Rainsberry said “Since we launched in September 2008 we have seen great progress and 2010 and beyond will see even more as we work with the NHS across London to begin the process of shaping the workforce to deliver our vision of world-class healthcare to every Londoner.”
