London's workforce

Engagement

Employee engagement is the involvement of people at all levels in positive two-way dialogue and action to deliver the highest quality patient care and create great places to work. WIthin the NHS, these are places where people find their work meaningful and are willing to work together to create the best possible workplace for their colleagues, a successful and dynamic organisation and, most importantly, deliver the best possible healthcare for their patients.

Engaging for Quality and Embedding Partnership Locally projects

Seven projects across London were funded by the London NHS Partnership as part of the NHS Next Stage Review quality agenda and the commitments to improve engagement in Workforce for London – A Strategic Framework. These projects will help to foster a climate of employee engagement and empowerment through promoting best practice identified by research, demonstrating innovation, delivering engagement locally and improving partnership working whilst improving patient pathways.

The key objectives of this work are to:

  • Identify drivers of engagement through research
  • Identify metrics to measure staff engagement through analysis of the London staff attitude and patient surveys
  • Identify and sponsor local engagement projects which will deliver quality outcomes and share best practice
  • Promote the embedding of partnership working locally by sponsoring and sharing best practice.

The workforce transformation that is envisaged will also require the embedding of partnership working locally to support co-production of initiatives and true collaboration to overcome the challenges posed by the change agenda.

This work will be delivered primarily through the London NHS Partnership.
